German Language Teaching Assistants, 2021-2022

German Peer Language Facilitators, Fall 2021

Hallo alle miteinander/ Hello everyone!

My name is Lydia Bobb. I am a student from Koblenz, Germany, and I am currently working on my Bachelor of Education at the University of Koblenz-Landau. My two subjects are German and English literature and language; therefore, I am excited to support the German Program at Sonoma State University this fall semester 2021. I will assist the German language and literature students as a Peer Language Facilitator (PFL) during their classes and additionally support the students' learning progress as a tutor in the Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC). I am also an active member of the SSU German Club which organizes German events and activities to bring our culture(s) closer to your campus. I look forward to meeting you. Tschüss und liebe Grüße!

Hallo!

My name is Gamze Can and I am from Freiburg, a city in the South of Germany and in the corner of Switzerland and France. I am 21 years old and currently pursuing my Bachelor of Education at the PH Freiburg (Pädagogische Hochschule). Here at SSU, I am in my 5th semester and at the end of the year I am going to fly back to Germany.

In addition to my studies, I will also be active in the German Program as a Peer Language Facilitator. Besides assisting Dr. Grobbel and the FLTA Yasemin Schuenemann in the language classes, I will help organize activities for the German Club together with SSU students. You can meet me at Kaffeestunde or the German movie nights, and learn more about Germany.

You are welcome to send me an email if you want to practice German or just exchange ideas. I look forward to hearing from you!!

FULBRIGHT FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING ASSISTANT, 2021-2022

Servus mitanand and hello everyone!

My name is Yasemin Schünemann and I am from the beautiful little town called Nördlingen in Bavaria. I am currently completing my Master of Education in German and English at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. I am excited to be here at SSU as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant in the German Program this academic year! As a Fulbright FLTA, I also serve the campus-community through public events, such as presentations during the International Education Week.

Since I love teaching German and learning about new cultures, I am looking forward to meeting you all! I will be hosting the Kaffeestunde on Tuesdays at noon in SIP where you can practice your German. Everyone is invited to join us in this informal German conversation hour. I will also present the German Movie Series every other Wednesday evening at 7:15 p.m. in 2020 Salazar. All films have English subtitles, and everybody is invited to our post-screening discussion. I am also supporting the SSU German Club which will make sure to bring the German language and culture to you by having lots of fun with different activities! For example, we will watch a German soccer game, play German board games, spend time together at the lakes, and much more. Besides these events, I offer office hours which are always open for everybody interested in German! You can always come to me or to our current PLFs (peer language facilitators) from Germany, Gamze and Lydia, to join us for a chat and learn more about the diversity of the German-speaking world!
